For many mompreneurs, summer is a season of mixed rhythms. There are vacations, kids at home, slower routines, and often less business structure. By the time September rolls around, it can feel like you’re trying to restart an engine that’s been sitting idle.
You may have felt a bit of fear when reading that paragraph but let’s not forget that ever part of life has seasons. Each season can be an opportunity to grow, and September can be your secret weapon. Just like the back-to-school reset helps our kids refocus, it gives us as entrepreneurs a powerful chance to reset, recommit, and recharge our businesses. Think of it as a fresh “New Year” without the January pressure.
In this post, I’ll show you how to channel the September reset into business momentum that carries you through the rest of the year with clarity, energy, and results.
1. Reflect & Reset
Before you race into fall projects, take a moment to look back.
- What worked well this summer in your business?
- What slowed down or fell off track?
- Where did family life force you to get creative and how can those lessons help you streamline?
Reflection allows you to reset with intention instead of just rushing forward. A 30-minute reflection session can save you weeks of wasted effort later. I talk about this a lot but you as the CEO, set the vision and tone for yourself and/or your team so this is a critical part of your day to day. Reflect and then respond, not re-act!
2. Re-Establish Routines
Summer often brings flexible days and scattered schedules. September is the time to bring back structure, not just for your kids, but for your business.
- Power Hour: Choose one hour a week dedicated to strategy, metrics, and decision-making.
- Morning Routine: Anchor your day with 10–15 minutes of planning before diving into tasks.
- Batching: Group content, client work, or admin tasks into focused blocks instead of scattering them across the week.
When your routines are consistent, your results become predictable.
3. Set Short-Term Goals (90-Day Sprint)
September kicks off the final stretch of the year. Instead of setting vague annual goals, focus on a 90-day sprint.
Ask yourself:
- What are the top 1–2 revenue generating priorities I can accomplish by December?
- What systems need to be cleaned up now so the holiday season doesn’t derail me?
- Where can I simplify instead of adding more?
With 90 days, you have enough time to make a big impact, but not so much that you get lost in planning instead of action. Remember, the key here is to plan and then immediately execute. Don’t over analyze, you can pivot and tweak plans as you go.
4. Leverage Mom Skills for Business
Here’s the hidden gift of motherhood: we already know how to juggle, adapt, and manage competing priorities. Back-to-school season reminds us of the power of structure, patience, and persistence.
If you can navigate after-school routines, extracurricular schedules, and family dinners, you can absolutely systematize your invoicing, client onboarding, or content schedule. The discipline you use at home is the same discipline that will scale your business.
5. Finish the Year Strong
The last four months of the year can make or break your annual goals. By hitting reset now, you’ll position yourself to:
- Capture year-end revenue opportunities
- Enter the holiday season with systems that work for you (not against you)
- Step into January with momentum already rolling
Remember: it’s not too late in the year to change your trajectory. September is your chance to build momentum that compounds into the new year.
Final Thought
September isn’t just a return to routines. For many it’s embracing the coziness of the fall season but it’s also an opportunity to reimagine your business with fresh energy. To knock out a reset for next seasons plans and strategy and to enter winter with energy and a plan and not a cry for help. Treat it as a reset button and watch how much you can accomplish between now and December.
You don’t need to do it all, you just need to do the right things consistently.
